SLP Stress and ALL THE Cookies on the Couch

SLP Stress! Can I just tell you- If I didn’t have life coaching and self-coaching 

I’d be eating cookies on the couch non-stop.

I mean… not that I haven’t binge eaten some chips here and there during this time…

and not that it’s wrong…

BUT 

A simple, but effective little tool I use that seriously helps me NOT be a complete slug…

you guys…

My brain-  Left unmanaged???  is like a two year old running around with a bag of marshmallows and scissors in her hands

Not good

I could seriously hurt myself or some body else.  

No focus and eat. all. the. things.

There is a tool I teach called 

Powerful Questions.  It relates to a Cognitive Behavioral Technique called Reframing… but it’s boiled down very simply.

Normally- our brains are designed to spin very negative, look for problems, avoid any kind of discomfort and seek pleasure- hence the cookies on the couch. Your brain is really sweet in that- it thinks it’s protecting you.  

Problem is you don’t necessarily want to sit on the couch all day and you actually don’t like the consequences of it either.  wah, wah… 

You might feel lethargic, lack focus, feel sad or just can’t stop the anxious thoughts…

The Powerful question I have been asking myself all day. everyday. throughout each day is…

How do I WANT to use this time?

It brings a focus to my brain that helps me think and decide from my prefrontal cortex and remember that I don’t want to just be a slug…

I mean, I do sometimes and I’m okay with that, 

but I decide that on purpose.

Sometimes I want to… play with my kids, walk, work, write, make a video, clean, rest, watch a show…

I’ve been so much more productive since I have been repeating this question to myself.

Also, FYI: Rest, goofing off, being silly IS PRODUCTIVE. Your brain needs that.

Whether you are on the frontlines, or working from home, or not working… 

This question can be life changing.

Try this question on yourself or create a question that shifts your brain into paying attention
