Trying hard to figure it out

SLP burnout rates, therapist burnout, Stress, Speech Language Pathologist, working too much, figure this out

Think of something you’ve been trying to improve or change 

Think of something you’ve been trying to change

Work? Health? Relationship? All of it?

You might say

I need to figure this out

….We say that a lot

Here’s what you need to know about that statement

It could be years “trying” to figure something out-

trying, figuring, waiting- is exhausting

(Ask me how I know)

What if it’s less about figuring it out…and more about just trying shit

and going from there?

The figuring-it-out part gives your brain license to be stuck in confusion (for years)

and not make any decisions or take effective action. (I get it 🙋‍♀️)

Because – fear

Because – safety

Because – practicality

Because – it’s hard

Trying something;

taking action-does NOT usually feel amazing- (sorry)

It’s scary and makes you feel kind of barfy. 🤢

So we think something has gone. Seriously. Wrong.

Nope- normal

most SLPs think they have unsolvable problems they’re trying to figure out a solution for.

BUT

You don’t have a –I need to wait to figure it out– problem…

OR you might be searching or the “right,” (non-scary) solution.

it’s just a Making decisions. Trying shit. and Committing- Problem.

no worries, it’s very common and solvable

I mean, unless you have a crystal ball 🔮

How does thinking… “I’m trying to figure it out” serve you?

It doesn’t.

It inadvertently burns up a ton of your time and energy

Well, actually if you stay stuck in “figure it out mode” for years it does spare you that barfy feeling.

It also spares you -your dreams 😢

So I challenge you to TRY. ONE. THING. Let me know what you’re starting with
